HTML Editors
- It's no secret that our favorite HTML editor for Windows is HomeSite. HomeSite includes all of the features we'll ever need in an HTML editor, with the exception of an HTML validator. However, if you use HomeSite, you can have a one-button access to the HTML validator of your choice.
- For Mac users, we suggest BBEdit. It's a text based editor, with many add-ons available. You can search Shareware.com for BBEdit to find many of the additional tools available for BBEdit users.
HTML Validators
An HTML Validator is a tool that checks your HTML for any errors. We move directly into a grey area here. What's an HTML error? Some web purists would indicate that it is any element not approved by the W3 consortium. Others will tell you "if it looks okay in my browser, then it's okay!" Luckily most validators allow you to choose how tightly you want to check your HTML.
- We suggest the Windows HTML validator CSE HTML Validator. It's speedy, and you can set how carefully you want the HTML checked. You can download a trial version. There's nothing quite like getting a "No errors" message on your HTML...the HTML equivalent of an A+.
- There are a number of web sites that will check your HTML. Our favorite is Bobby, which also will help you make web pages accessible to people with disabilities.
Tutorials & Reference
- The HTML Reference library rocks. This searchable file, in Windows Help format, is a priceless gem of HTML wisdom. Does it get any better? You bet it does! The HTML Reference Library is freeware.
